Collins is another US defender with some solid two way potential. However, he certainly tips the scale as a more defensive minded defender. This season, in 36 games, the 6-foot-4 d-man has scored one goal and added four assists.
A tall and lanky defender, Collins is still working on adding size and strength to his frame, but already plays with a physical element to his game. Able to take and deliver hits without losing anything positionally, he is strong in front of the net and gritty down low.
His size also affords him a long reach which makes him difficult to beat one-on-one and also effective at disrupting the passing lanes. He does play more of a stay at home style, remaining calm and playing a simple defensive game, but is also a very mobile skater, especially for his size. The potential is there, he just needs to continue to work at it.
