Pastrnak played his way onto the Czech Republic’s World Junior Championship roster this past month that’s to a strong start with Sodertalje in the Allsvenskan. And while the youngster is impressing in the top league in Sweden, it was his play at the U18 as an underager that really stands out. When compared to the underage season of San Jose’s Tomas Hertl, Pastrnak was even more impressive. With 19 points in 16 games, Pastrnak was able to out-do Hertl’s 13 points in 22 games.
A flashy and electrifying offensive talent, Pastrnak has great hands and is an elusive skater with speed and acceleration. His offensive instincts are excellent and he can unleash a bullet of a shot. He’s got a plethora of moves he can bring out 1-on-1 as well with a quick release to boot.
Despite his intelligence, Pestrnak still needs to add some size and strength to his frame. Hopefully, playing against the top players in Sweden’s top league will also help facilitate his defensive growth.
However though, Pastrnak remains an interesting offensive option. With the ability to set the temp with his quickness and elusiveness, the talented Czech is an exciting player to watch.
